Welcome to my Website! My name is Pastor Doug Laird.
I have been involved in spiritual writing since the mid 1980's. I have written hundreds of efifying articles. Some of these articles were published in a local newspaper, and many more on numerous websites. including my own on-line ministries. . .
My style of teaching/writing has a no nonsense approach, as I believe the primary purpose of spiritual writing and teachong is to edify those who read it, and not to necessarily entertain or amuse.
If the pastor teacher that God has in mind for you is doing his job, there will be times that what he communicates will be inspiring and uplifting, and there will be times that what he communicates hits you right between the eyes and most challenging. Most commentators tell me that my articles, "read like a sermon", but this is by design.
In my walk with the Lord, I have tested the waters in many areas of Christian service, including police chaplaincy, Sunday School teacher, and being ordained to the do the work of a pastor-teacher in 2008.
I have learned through painful experience the reality of such passages as Matthew 13:57. A prophet (one who speaks for God) is not honored in his own town and in his own household. This is because we are often too close or involved in the circumstances to be used of God to address it, and the Ephesians 6:12 forces of evil are quick to remind others of our own areas of weakness when we attempt to evangelize or to spiritually edify the people we naturally care about the most.. God's answer(s) to our prayers for the salvation and/or edification of such people is to have all Hell break loose in their lives in order to bring them to a point where they are receptive to the Gospel or to an edifying passage of Scripture.
Through Providential design, the Lord has always brought me to or back to an environment of relative isolation with a keyboard of one form or another along with a compelling desire to edify those who have been born again.
My first keyboard was a Royal manual typewriter that would probably qualify as an antique by now. The next was a word processor, and finally a computer.
While the presentation of the Gospel and teaching on the Doctrine of Salvation will be a part of many of the presentations a pastor-teacher produces, the primary function of a pastor-teacher is to edify those who have already been born again.
Scripture must be interpreted in light of the period of history in which the various passages were written. When Scripture (Hebrews 10:25) was composed, there was only two ways in which an Apostle, evangelist, or a pastor-teacher could communicate the Word of God. One was to do so verbally in person, and the other was through written epistles.
In the day and age in which we live, there are numerous means of communication and numerous ways in which any given group of believers can gather together to receive spiritual edification.
The Great Commission given to the Church has an external and an internal directive. The external directive is to proclaim the GOSPEL for salvation to unbelievers out in the devil's world. The internal directive is to make disciples, (mathetes in the Greek), that means to be a technical student and applier of the Word of God, out of those who have already been born again.
The phrase "born again" has been much abused and has become a label that for many is equivalent to "religious nut ", due in part, to the manner in which many who claim to be born again condcut themselves. Biblically speaking, the phrase, "born again (John 3:3) is referring to the second birth, that is spiritual in nature and results in the regeneration of the dead human spirit within all of us (Titus 3:5).
One is born again (John 3:3) by choosing to make a positive response to a presentation of the Gospel. This can take place at any time and at any place that God the Holy Spirit selects.
The Christian Community, as a whole, has drifted away from its marching orders and have engaged in many alternative activities. Many of these activities have NO Biblical substantiation, and in many cases, contradict what Scripture has ordained regarding the internal and external mission of the Church.
The Biblical (Hebrews 10:25) command to gather together to accomplish the internal directive given to the Church can be satisfied through many means of communication that continue to be developed and are available to virtually anyone who has access to electricity and/or the Internet.
All of my articles are based on Scripture and the "I.C.E" method of Biblical Theology. The ICE method did not originate with me, but was a part of the training I received in my twelve years of organized study in preparation for my ordination.
The ICE method is the application of the Isagogics (historical background), Catagorical Doctrine (which requires a review of all relevant Scripture that address any given topic) and Exegesis, that is the study of the words as they were used at the time and in the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek languages that God the Holy Spirit inspired the human authors to utilize.
To what extent any believer or group of believers accept or reject the principles I teach is NOT a matter between them and me; it is a matter between them and the Lord.
I pray that you will be edified through my articles and special video presentations. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions on the material I produce or if you have any questions of a spiritual nature on any given subject.
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Doug Laird
